Footsteps Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need a partner to attend a class?
A. No you don't! Here at the Footsteps Ballroom, we will make every effort to provide a partner on the night, but obviously this will depend on the numbers in attendance at the time. So convincing your better half to come along would be beneficial and would ensure that you will be dancing all night long!
Q. I have two left feet when I try to dance. Can you help me?
A. Yes! In our Beginners class you will be surrounded by other people, who, just like yourself, have never danced before and are at least as nervous as you are. Everybody who starts to dance is in the same position, even the top professional dancers had to start as absolute beginners. Many people have come to us with the feeling that they have no rhythm or with the dreaded "two left feet". You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish in just a few hours of your time.
Q. Am I too old to learn to dance? Don't dancers start as little children?
A. It is true that many top professionals started to learn to dance when they were very young, but you are not coming to dance the steps they do! In our beginners class you will learn the basic, fundamental steps. You can start dancing at any age and continue to dance for life.
Q. What should I wear to class? Any special shoes to wear?
A. Most people come in casual wear, some dress up. Regardless, it's a dance class, so you should be comfortable! It’s a good idea to wear layers, as you will get hot! Avoid trainers, you'll stick to the floor. Light shoes with a non-grip sole and low heel for men and medium for ladies are best. Any type of mule or ‘flip-flop’ is not advisable for safety reasons. As you improve you will appreciate the benefits of professional dance shoes ensuring that you get the best out of your new found hobby. Your dance teacher can advise you about these.
Q. How can I pay for my classes?
A. Payments can be made in cash, or by cheque, and all classes can be paid for on a weekly basis. However, if you choose to pay for your course within the first 2 weeks we are able to offer a discounted price.
Q. How long does it take to learn to dance?
A. Well that's a difficult one because everyone learns at different speeds. The classes that we run are tried and tested and it is very rare that people find it necessary to repeat a class – usually only due to prolonged absences where too many classes have been missed to catch up!
Q. What happens if I miss a class?
A. Usually, the class structure is such that a portion of each class is devoted to revising the previous weeks work. However, if you feel disadvantaged by your absence, we would recommend that you attend our practice session where extra help is available should you need it.
Q. What are the different Class Levels? How long does it take to progress?
A. Beginners Class - for new dancers 12 Weeks Intermediate Class - Progression after 12 weeks at Beginner Level Advanced Class - Progression after 24 weeks at Intermediate Level
Q. Must I book before coming along?
A. It is a good idea to check that there is room on your chosen class to avoid disappointment.
Q. Can I bring my own drinks?
A. It is always important to drink plenty of water when taking part in any exercise. We therefore offer bottled water for sale at all our classes, however, it is not a problem if you wish to bring along your own.
